Just finished watching Midnight in Paris…and I’m torn.
The cinematography, costumes, everything visual is beautiful. Ditto the soundtrack. The actors do a fantastic job of playing the great men and women of the ’20s.
But Rachel McAdams’ character…ugh. There’s got to be a name for stock name for the Uptight Golddigging Bitchy Girlfriend who Just Doesn’t...

You should read Slouching Towards Bethlehem by Joan Didion. It’s a collection of journalism and personal essays written by one of the best literary journalists ever, and besides being beautifully written and part of the reason I am (almost a/kind of a) journalist today, it’s also a wonderful look into the 1960s.
Almost all the pieces in this book were written between 1965 and 1967,...
